ADMIN: Leadership Conference - February 22, 2020

It’s not news that the Christian church in most parts of the world is dying.  The millennial generation is the first generation to claim to be more non-religious than religious. This means “the way we’ve always done it” isn’t working.

“Canoeing the Mountains” by Tod Bolsinger is a book about what it takes to canoe over a mountain when you run out of water and you have to venture into unchartered territory for which you are not prepared.

Woods Chapel leaders will look deeply at what it means to lead a group of people into unchartered territory.  How can we lead our church to reach a generation of people who call themselves non-religious?  How do we lead when the ways we’ve been doing it for 50, 100, 500 or 1,000 years are no longer working?

On February 22, 2020, pastor, seminary professor and author, Tod Bolsinger, will join us for the day to take the discussion to a deeper level.  We will talk further about the “condition” that Christianity finds itself in. We will discuss concepts and common language for adaptive change.  We will look at conflict and sabotage and how that hinders our progress.  We will also dive deeply into what church transformation needs to look like in order to fulfill God’s mission in this unchartered cultural landscape.

*** BOLSINGER'S BOOK, CANOEING THE MOUNTAINS, IS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN THE LEE'S SUMMIT CAMPUS BOOKSTORE. PLEASE SECURE A COPY AND BEGIN READING. ***

FINANCE: 2020 Annual Giving Commitment

WORSHIP-At Woods Chapel, we believe that returning a portion of our income to God is an act of worship. It is an expression of your love for God and a step of faith.

STEWARDSHIP-Giving is a way of life that recognizes that everything we have belongs to God and we are simply managing those resources. Through giving, we can reach out in love to share with the world.

MINISTRY-Annual giving, and offerings make mission and ministry possible at Woods Chapel.  Your gifts build transforming communities where people are included, accepted, and loved.  Giving  provides life-changing worship, congregational care, opportunities for all ages to grow in faith and ministries that are transforming our community and world.

COMMITMENT-Supporting the church financially is one of the expectations of membership at Woods Chapel. While we don't tell you how much you should give, our hope is that you are giving regularly and growing in your giving. Annual commitments help the church budget, plan and expand ministry in the coming year.

GROUPS: The Connected Family

Begins September 22

Sundays // 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. // Room 312 at Lee's Summit Campus

"How do I get this kid to bed?" "Who started this?"  "Why aren't you done with your homework yet?  No car for you this weekend unless you get it done now!"  Sound familiar?

Here is an opportunity to experience parenting (or teaching) differently. Come learn the Conscious Discipline approach to our most demanding job. It is the only program that uses everyday events to handle the upsets of life and make permanent, transformational change in our homes.  One from chaotic to calm, from worry and fear to helpful, regulated and back to the love we intended from the beginning.

Our first evening together will be longer than the others since we will need to set up a few things.  This is NOT a quick fix course although there are several components that can be implemented immediately.  It will take the willingness to begin thinking differently, making mistakes and trying again.  After all isn't that what we are asking of our children while in school?

The class is a couple hours each night along with some 'homework' to help you get started . The topics for each evening build on each other and the first night is foundational to the whole program.  I respectfully ask that if you cannot come on the first night to watch for when the next study will be offered.

Free childcare available at registration. Registration deadline Monday, September 23, 2019

The book Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline is recommended but not required. If you would like for me to purchase the book please pay $17 below. A 3-ring notebook will be helpful.

Contact Michelle Hayward at whwpcd@gmail.com or text 816.289.9702 with questions or to be added to the list for the next class.

MISSIONS: Nicaragua Sponsorship

Woods Chapel Church partners with the Rainbow Network to fight poverty in rural Nicaragua.

In 2013, we met the families living in the village of Los Pinos, Nicaragua. The community did not have clean water, and most children had intestinal parasites as a result of drinking and bathing in the same creek as the animals. Children did not continue their education past 6th grade, but instead began working in the fields to earn money for their families.

We began partnering with the Rainbow Network to empower the people in Los Pinos in the areas of health care, education, economic development, and housing. We have seen change, but we hope to continue to impact lives in this community and the surrounding area.

Our annual sponsorship of $20,000 enables the Rainbow Network to continue their work. This seems like a large commitment, so to make this happen, we ask 100 families each year at Woods Chapel to make a $200 commitment. Your generosity is literally changing a community in rural Nicaragua.

Another one of the ways we strive to break the cycle of poverty is by sponsoring high school students so that they can continue their education past 6th grade. A high school sponsorship provides the supplies, uniform, and transportation needed to attend high school.
