Camino Verdad Y Vida CVV serves a Spanish speaking community in a low-income area. They have a food pantry, clothing closet, and offer English classes to the community. WCC provides assistance to CVV to their food pantry through Harvesters, aiding their congregation through donations of furniture and clothing, and provides help with seasonal celebrations. Children's Clothing Closet Located within Grace Place, we provide gently used clothing and coats to under-privileged children. We collect school clothing for children ages K-12(sizes 4 through junior girls and young mens) as well as clothing and sleepwear for babies and toddlers. We also collect new socks and underware. Children's Missions Our team helps incorporate mission projects, like: making dental kits, collecting pull-tabs off cans, making cards for Meals on Wheels participants, etc. in which Woods Chapel children can partipate. Includes: "Undies Sunday" for Uganda Mission trips, sack lunches for the homeless at Westport UMC and Grace Place, cards for senior citizens with Building Bridges Program and Meals On Wheels, recycling proceeds to benefit Ronald McDonald House, collections for Heifer International, shoes for kids in Nicaragua, stocking stuffers for children at Spofford, and so on. Christianity 101 Christianity 101 bridges the gap between biblical scholarship and people who want to understand the Christian faith. Christmas Adopt-A-Child Every Christmas, well over 100 needy children from the local and metro area are 'adopted' and given Christmas gifts! Many children from our sister church, Camino Verdad y Vida, are given new shoes and socks. "Grandparents" from local nursing homes are adopted as well. Club 56 Club 56 is a club designed for our 5th and 6th graders. It serves as a stepping stone to introduce what Youth Ministry is to children that are entering into their "tween" years—the years when they're not quite teenagers, but they're not fitting into the "little kid" box anymore. Club 56 helps them make this transition into their adolescent years. It meets on Sunday evenings from 5:00-6:30 pm, in the Fellowship Hall. Dinner for 8 Dinner groups forming this fall What could be a better way to meet new friends than over a dinner in each other's homes? For the fifth year, Woods Chapel is forming dinner groups of eight people who will meet and eat together four times a year between September and May. You don't need to be a gourmet cook. One group decided to just do desserts that they picked up at the grocery store. Last year, we had almost 100 members involved and many new friendships were formed. Couples or singles will be matched into groups of eight and will receive information about who is in their group via email in mid September. Couples should plan to host one dinner during the year at their home, with the host couple providing the main course. Fellowship Hall is available if someone prefers to host the dinner there. Each group can decide on the menu, as well as select the dates to meet. If you're interested in joining a dinner group this year, please register on this week's stub or on the church website under forms by September 8. Grace Notes Children Children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade learn a variety of songs that teach Bible verses, character development, and core Christian values. Hillcrest--Independence Provides transitional housing in a Christian environment to homeless families and helps them become self-supportive, self-reliant contributors to society. WCC sponsors this ministry through an annual donation and by sustaining a studio apartment for a family. Each week a volunteer delivers items like diapers, toiletries, and groceries from their "urgent needs" list. We support events such as the Hillcrest Gala and the Walk-a-thon. Jr. High Youth Woods Chapel Church Junior High Youth includes 7th and 8th grade students. Youth Ministries at Woods Chapel has some great stuff for you to check out and get connected. We've got Sunday School, Youth Group, Synago, retreats, lock-ins--you name it, we got it. Breakfast Club, our 9:05 Sunday school, meets in the Student Minstry Building to eat some excellent grub, and watch a video that generates discussion. Youth Group is where you can bring friends to a fun environment where we grow together in our relationships with each other and Christ through games, worship, and cool teaching. We meet in the Student Ministry Building on Sunday nights from 5-6:30 pm. Synago is our program of student-led small groups of 5-10 people that provide encouragement, compassion, accountability, true community, and forgiveness--with lots of laughter. Play Group The playgroup is open to any caregiver of preschool age children, basically any child under 5. We are stay-at-home moms, part-time workers or even grandmothers who bring our grandchildren. We typically meet around 10:30 every Thursday at various locations, like the I-Max theater, the KC Zoo, various parks, Children's theater, etc... Sonbeam Singers (Children) Sonbeam Singers is a ministry for our youngest singers where we have fun praising God! Sonbeam Singers typically sing the 2nd Sunday of each month. The children meet for 30 minutes on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:00 p.m. in Room 322. Preschoolers must be 3 yrs. old before August 1, or pre-kindergarten age. Spofford A United Methodist sponsored home for abused and neglected children in Kansas City, MO. Children receive specialized care and connections between children and their families, whether biological, extended, foster or adoptive are nurtured. The Music Department at WCC provides assistance to Spofford through various donation drives throughout the year. (The Quilters for Charity provide hand-made quilts so that each new child who arrives at Spofford can pick out his or her own blanket.) Sr. High Youth Youth Ministries at Woods Chapel has some great stuff for you to check out and get connected. We've got Sunday School, Youth Group, Synago, retreats, lock-ins--you name it, we got it. The Breakfast Club, our 9:05 Sunday School, meets in the Student Ministry Building to eat some excellent grub, and watch a video to generate discussion. Youth Group is where you can bring friends to a fun environment where we grow together in our relationships with each other and Christ through games, worship, and cool teaching. We meet in the Student Ministry Building on Sunday nights from 7-8:30 pm. Synago is our program of student-led small groups of 5-10 people that provide encouragement, compassion, accountability, true community, and forgiveness--with lots of laughter.
